Training & progression
At IOP Publishing we take your training and development seriously. We offer a structured programme from the point of induction to help you achieve your full potential alongside continued support and encouragement from your manager.
Typically at IOP Publishing you can expect a mix of on-the-job training with experienced publishing staff, as well as in-house courses and external training events and workshops.
Progression and pay-rises are based on your ability to meet the key competences that your training programme will equip you with. For instance, our Publishing Editors start on a salary of £19, 000 per annum and depending on performance, can be earning £20,000 or more, as they develop in the role.

Progression
IOP Publishing has a strong record of developing its editorial talent in house. The majority of our publishers started here at IOP as Publishing Editors, which demonstrates just how committed we are to the development of all our staff. What’s more, we’re continuously expanding so new opportunities often arise. Most talented new joiners progress within two years of appointment, the most ambitious progressing even more quickly - there’s no shortage of opportunities to take on additional responsibilities.
