HR Recruitment Officer

I joined as an Editorial Secretary straight after college; my first 'proper' job. If you told me back then that I'd end up staying for a career - even working towards an MA - I would never have believed you. There aren't many employers you join on a stopgap before University, then still be there eleven years later ... but IOP Publishing is one of them. It really is amazing how far you can go by staying in the same place - I think it's a testimony to the fantastic opportunities I've been offered over the years.

The reason I joined the IOP Publishing in the first place was that I was looking for a company that was committed to developing its people. In IOP Publishing, I certainly found it. The people are fantastic - professional, intelligent and committed - and spending my days in HR, it's been a privilege to work with them. The commitment the company's made to my future's been equally impressive: the courses I've been on have been too numerous to name individually, however I'm currently studying for an MA in Human Resource Management. That said, not everything I've learnt has been classroom based - far from it. I've been lucky enough to work in different departments and different roles, so I've never been bored, and feel really grounded in how the business work from different perspectives - which is invaluable now I'm here in HR.

Though I've picked up a lot of new skills and come a long way since my post-college days, one of the best things about my job is that no two days are ever the same! I'm excited about moving towards business partnering in HR and as IOP Publishing offers both support and autonomy, I know that processes and procedures will keep evolving. And one thing's for sure - I'm going to be one of the ones suggesting new ideas.
